What this calculator is actually doing
A parts ratio describes relative quantities, not fixed units. A 4:1:1 mix contains six total parts, so the base is four sixths of the batch and each remaining component is one sixth.
Enter ratio parts exactly as the manufacturer states them, and keep every component in the same volume or weight unit.

How to do the math yourself
Total ratio parts = base parts + reducer parts + hardener parts. Component amount = total batch × component parts ÷ total ratio parts.
Worked example
For a 4:1:1 ratio and a 24 oz batch:Total parts = 4 + 1 + 1 = 6Base = 24 × 4 ÷ 6 = 16 ozReducer = 4 oz and hardener = 4 ozChoose a batch size that your cups or scale can measure reliably without leaving too little time to spray before pot life expires.

- Use only the reducer and hardener specified for the product and current temperature range.
- Mix a batch that can be sprayed within the stated pot life, including setup and cleanup time.
- Strain when instructed, record the ratio, and use the same measurement system for every component.
Viscosity, gun setup, temperature, humidity, flash time, and application technique still control the finished result.
How we got here
A little history and background
Spray finishing expanded with compressed air equipment in the twentieth century. Two component coatings added chemical curing and durability, making accurate ratios and pot life management essential.
What the result does not tell you
The calculator proportions components only. It does not set viscosity, choose a reducer, determine spray pressure, tip size, film build, flash time, pot life, booth airflow, or environmental compliance.

Frequently asked questions
Does 4:1:1 mean four ounces, one ounce, and one ounce?
Only for a six ounce batch. The ratio scales to any total amount.
Can I add extra reducer to improve flow?
Only within the product data sheet. Too much reducer can reduce film build, alter cure, and increase emissions.
Why does pot life matter?
A catalyzed mixture continues reacting in the cup and may thicken, heat, or become unusable even if it still looks liquid.
